Selection

To speed modeling in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, we dramatically simplified Selection functionality, making it more consistent with many other familiar software applications.

Simple Selection
Find out how the fundamentals of Selection have changed—totally for the better. Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire now provides dynamic graphical feedback along with commonly used mouse manipulations.
  • Preview Highlighting and Selection
  • Query Select
  • Selecting Multiple Items
  • Selecting the Boundary Edges of a Surface
  • Selecting a Chain of Edges Sequentially
  • The Filter
A handy little power tool, the filter is located at the bottom right of your screen, and controls how and when to make selections. Chance are, you'll prefer to leave it set at "Smart", but you can also use it to filter out entities that you don't want to select.
Smart Filter: Feature First, Geometry Second
Selection in Pro/ENGINEER now follows a very simple rule. First, select a feature. From there you have two choices: perform an action on that feature, such as delete or redefine, or proceed to select some geometry of that feature. Once you have the geometry selected, you can execute an action on it, such as creating a feature.
    Changing the Filter
Often, when modeling, you may want to select only certain geometry types, like surfaces, edges or curves. To do this, you simply change the filter.

    The Search Tool
A new, faster workflow, allowing the selection of an object and then the decision for the action, is more commonly available throughout all of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire. It is used for everything from creating features to component actions in assembly.
  • Changing the Search Object
  • Searching For Components By Attributes
  • Excluding Selected Components From a Simplified Representation
  • Searching For Features By Type
