Evaluate Success and Value

Revisit the goals and metrics you established for your DPM project. Then, gather the data you need to measure success and consider your next steps.

Before you begin, complete these steps:

01. Gather and Review Metrics

Revisit the goals and metrics you set at the beginning of your project to measure progress and success. Revisit your baseline metrics.

Depending on your use case, we recommend you wait 30-90 days after going live to assess the first metrics for the app. There will be some immediate improvements. However, some metrics require several weeks of data to correctly create a measurement, especially if workers are slow to adopt the app.

Compare the baseline metrics to your current data to determine the value of the solution so far. Slow adoption is an indicator by itself. One of the indicators of low adoptions is significant ‘unaccounted’ time. It should be a success metric to drive this value to zero. If people are not using the solution, consider why they are having trouble accessing the solution. Is there a network or hardware issue? Is there a lack of automation? Do they need training? You can act on some of these issues.

Also, account for any unexpected benefits that ThingWorx Digital Performance Management has provided your organization. There may be a measurable or less tangible value worth highlighting. Or digital reporting may have eliminated the need for pen-and-paper reporting, saving time and waste. You may want to adjust your value propositions based on the numbers and results the group managers see. If so, clearly explain the reasons to your stakeholders.

02. Communicate Results

Share the results and adjustments to your value propositions with the project sponsor, project team, organizational leaders, group managers, users, and other stakeholders. It is important to share these results, so all stakeholders are informed about the solution’s value. Reviewing these results can also help you strategize the next steps.

You will provide a clearer picture of value if you continue to measure and report over time. Users may turn to the app more as they get comfortable. They may also discover new ways to use product data. Because of this, usage may change based on their information needs.

As new deployments begin (within or across sites), incorporate representatives from previous deployments to share expertise and learnings.

03. Confirm Performance Improvement

Refer to the measurement plan you created earlier and review your baseline metrics. Are you able to confirm the improvement of that singular line’s performance? At this time, you may continue to adjust the application for this line. Then, return to the design phase reference “Building Blocks” to learn how to customize your DPM application further.
