Overview: Get Started with ThingWorx Digital Performance Management

Go Live

When you are ready to go live, deploy ThingWorx DPM to your production environment. Share progress with stakeholders and update documentation. Once the app is live, notify users and teach them how to access it.

Before you begin, complete these steps:

01. Deploy the Solution to Production

After you have performed all the necessary testing in the test/QA environment, you are ready to deploy the code to production through Solution Central. This step "publishes" your application—deploying it to your manufacturing plant. Before promoting to production, ensure you have a backup in place. If you have followed a thorough DevOps process, your work should already be backed up.

To go live in production, the developer or architect deploys data and entities to the production server. If an issue arises, do not make changes to the application in the production environment. First, make adjustments and test them in the development environment. Second, begin testing/QA in an environment and test thoroughly. Third, publish and deploy the code to production.

Once the technical team has successfully deployed the application, notify project team members and stakeholders. The application is now collecting actual data and communicating with your assets. Finally, it is available for use.

02. Perform Final Smoke Test

The final smoke test helps you determine whether the application is ready to deploy. If any issues arose during a unit, functional, or user acceptance test, retest to ensure they are fixed. Run through several test scenarios, like adding a new user or interacting with a Mashup. Double-check your integrations for data leakage.

03. Communicate with Users

The person or group responsible for communicating with end users should notify all users that the app is live and ready to use. Then, refer to your organizational change management plan and follow up on any remaining communication and training items.

Provide end users with the information they need to access the app, whether sharing the link or showing them how to access it online.

Once the app is live, communicate with all users:

  • How to access the app
  • What login credentials to use
  • How to get support or training
  • How to access documentation
  • How to report issues
