ThingWorx fails to start with error "Storage anchor break found"

Description

  • ThingWorx Platform Tomcat Service fails to start with error in <ThingWorx Home>\ThingworxStorage\logs\ApplicationLog.log: 
    Flexara threw exception when checking for previously acquired license: Storage anchor break found.
  • ThingWorx fails to start after changing the user running the Apache Tomcat service
    • No changes after implementing article CS342958 Running Tomcat Service as a named user does not allow ThingWorx Platform to start, it shows license errors and stops
    • Tomcat service aborts after attempting to start it when using a named user account for running the service 
  • ThingWorx Tomcat fails to start after replacing license 
  • New license is ignored while upgrading ThingWorx or renewing the license
  • ThingWorx service starts and stops due to license connection
  • License file is renamed to ignored_license_capability_response.bin despite applying article CS281516 License file is ignored or considered missing following a ThingWorx upgrade or license renewal 
    • Following error appears in <ThingWorx Home>\ThingworxStorage\logs\ApplicationLog.log at startup: 
      Unable to process capability response because Storage anchor break found
    • Following error is seen when starting a ThingWorx pod in Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS):

    • The issue occurred after changing the user account that runs the Tomcat service
    • The issue is resolved when reverting to the original user account that executes the Tomcat service
