LS Electric Enables “Drive Change for 2030” Vision With the Digital Thread

Learn how LS Electric uses PTC products to seamlessly integrate digital data across engineering, manufacturing, and service processes, facilitating more efficient collaboration, reducing cycle times, and enhancing quality and customer satisfaction.

00:00 LS Electric is Korea's leading power and automation solutions company and is stepping up to establish a global presence, their vision, “Drive Change for 2030” reflects the company's goal to become a customer centered digital first enterprise. The digital thread is an essential enabler of this vision. At LS Electric, the digital thread is how they create a seamless, interconnected, continuous and synchronized flow of relevant digital data and information that defines their product.

00:30 It all starts in engineering with PTC’s Creo and Windchill. R&D shortens the development cycle by creating a generic transformer to which they add customer specific requirements. Here we see the standard specification EBOM with options and choices, including key design, quality characteristics and 3D visualizations. Next, we will see how this reference design is used to meet order specific customer requirements. Different types of transformers and applications will put greater focus on certain specifications and essential joint work

01:02 between the customer, designer, operations, and field service. This type of multienterprise collaboration in Windchill is powered by Thingworx Navigate providing easy access to product data and PLM centric workflows. This low code app supports design, production planning and purchasing all while improving customer satisfaction. Together, the customer and LS Electric modify the specification, guided by rules established by engineering.

01:32 Information coming from Windchill is enriched with ERP data, greatly reducing cycle time. The customer is provided an estimated delivery date and price adjusted in real time based on their selections. Next, the agreed, accurate, system based order specification is automatically sent to R&D, reducing the chance of errors and delays because parts can be classified in Windchill the engineer easily finds and reuses standard parts quickly, completing the detailed customer specific design and testing of the derivative product.

02:06 Thanks to the digital thread and Windchill, the work in engineering automatically moves downstream to the factory. Industrial engineers select the customer specific design, open the BOM transformer and visually review and resolve any discrepancies. Process planners reuse an existing process plan and work instructions, adjusting it for the customizations. Now we are ready for manufacturing. Digital transformation is incomplete without the connected worker. PTC’s Connected Work Cell is fueled by the digital thread.

02:39 Creo, Windchill, and Thingworx IIoT deliver workers a seamless experience while capturing their execution data with access to key control characteristics, smart tools and machines. Vuforia Step Check delivers AI enhanced visual inspections paired with clear AR guidance. Frontline workers measure, examine and test whether work steps were carried out correctly and that products and their components were assembled and maintained according to specifications.

03:09 As the inspection is happening, the AI vision system can detect improper assemblies missing or misaligned parts or related faults. LS Electric is also able to automatically update service related content and stay connected to customer specific engineering data. Starting with the manufacturing BOM and Windchill the service engineers utilize the BOM transformer to create the Service BOM Arbortext enables the service information delivery team to reuse and leverage task based graphical content with XML authoring.

03:41 The customer's transformer is now ready to ship. Thanks to dedicated LS Electric engineers, PTC and the Digital Thread, LS Electric creates a personalized purchasing experience with improved quality in the factory and field that delivers on time every time.
