Q: So, who are you and what do you actually do?
Ben: I’m Senior Director of Product Management at PTC, focused on retail footwear and apparel. I lead the FlexPLM roadmap, designing, sourcing, costing and managing product features. I’ve spent 15 years immersed in FlexPLM, shaping its evolution, and have spent the past six years as Product Director. During this time, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the biggest brands in the world, solving real problems in a fast-moving industry.
Kelly: I’m Director of Business Development at ArcherGrey, a consulting firm that specializes in PLM solutions. I’ve been in the industry for over 30 years, working with retailers like Target and Chicos. I’ve chaired the FlexPLM Technical Committee for over a decade, and I’m passionate about business process, efficiency, and the Voice of the Customer.
Q: Any fun facts we should know?
Ben: I’m a bit of a sneaker enthusiast, with around 250 pairs in my collection. The Off-White Jordan One Chicago is my top pick.
Kelly: I’m a Pilates enthusiast - five to six days a week. I love self-competition and pushing myself to improve.
Q: How did you get into this world of PLM and technical committees?
Ben: I started in PTC’s consultant academy, learned Windchill PLM, and got the chance to work with apparel customers on the FlexPLM side. I love the mix of people and product. Joining the Technical Committee was a natural extension. I’m responsible for the roadmap, so I work closely with Kelly to gather feedback and shape what’s next.
Kelly: I studied fashion merchandising and textile science, then worked in industry as part of my education. I’ve always loved solving problems and improving processes. The committee was a way to give FlexPLM users a voice, and it’s grown into a dynamic, collaborative space.
Q: What exactly is the FlexPLM Technical Committee?
Ben: It’s a community of PTC customers, usually one business and one IT manager per company, who come together to influence the FlexPLM roadmap. Members vote on features, join working groups, and participate in roundtables that dive deep into topics like compliance, sourcing, and economic shifts. Even competitors share openly with each other on how they’re tackling problems. It’s all about solving industry challenges together.
Q: Why should someone join?
Ben: You get to shape the roadmap, gain peer-level insights, and discover what’s possible with the software so you get more value and greater knowledge.
Kelly: It’s the relationships. People are generous with their time and knowledge. If someone posts a question on ptcuser.org, others jump in to help, even offering calls to share experiences. It’s a true community.
Q: How often do you meet?
Kelly: Twice a year officially. One in-person and one virtual. Plus, quarterly webinars and bi-monthly calls. Topics range from deep dives into security and single sign-on to practical sessions on sourcing and adapting to market changes.
Q: How big is the group?
Kelly: There are hundreds of members globally with participation across North America, Asia, and Europe. The attendees represent all of these regions, so it is active, engaged, and growing.
Q: What’s the commitment like?
Ben: Totally flexible. You can spend an hour a month learning, or dive in and lead a session. Your level of involvement is entirely up to you.
Q: Final pitch: Why should PTC users get involved?
Kelly: Because it works. PTC listens. The committee has helped reprioritize roadmap features, improve functionality, and solve real business problems. It’s fun, it’s impactful, and it’s open to anyone who wants to make a difference.
