Description
- The following will serve as an update to ThingWorx Widget support strategy
- Background:
- For the last few years, PTC has been updating our widget suite and visualization toolset for the ThingWorx Mashup Builder
- These updates are focused on:
- Updating our web libraries, for compatibility in modern browsers
- Affording responsiveness for modern screens, devices and media viewports
- Updating the look and feel to meet the PTC Design System standards
- Offering additional functionality in widgets, which was not possible or not available in prior ThingWorx widget implementations
- PTC has been encouraging customers to use the new widgets with messaging in the ThingWorx product, and convert their existing mashups with legacy widgets
- A migration utility is provided to help customers convert from legacy implementations and help maintain platform investments
- What is a legacy widget on ThingWorx Mashup Builder and what does legacy mean?
- A legacy widget is a widget that has a newer implementation available
- Our latest implementations offer more functionality, better responsiveness, modern browser support, and improved look and feel
- How long will legacy widgets be supported?
- Based on feedback from our customers, we have relaxed our guidance on migrating to the latest widget set and making Mashup migration an optional activity at this time
- This allows customers to plan and evaluate the latest ThingWorx widget functionality and update when and where it makes sense for their implementations
- Widgets marked legacy will not be removed from the ThingWorx product at this time but please note that PTC reserves the right to drop support and availability of legacy widgets from the platform at some point in the future
- Widgets marked legacy indicate to a developer that there are newer implementations of that widget available for use in the platform
- Widgets marked legacy are under maintenance and will receive only necessary updates from PTC to maintain their current functionality and security
- Widgets marked legacy will not receive new features and enhancement updates
- Any feature enhancements will be performed on our new widget set (marked Standard in the Mashup Builder)
- We do not recommend any new ThingWorx application projects be developed with widgets marked legacy, where possible
- Our new standard widgets are highly capable and should be a step change in productivity, compatibility and functionality from the legacy widget sets
- Standard widgets are a better long-term path for use on new application projects in ThingWorx
