SpinFire Convert: CATIA V5 Hidden Geometry Conversion

Modified: 20-Feb-2026

Applies To

  • PTC Product View Adapters (Formerly Creo View Adapters) 12.1
  • SpinFire Convert 28.2
  • CATIA V5

Description

  • Enable Converter to convert CATIA V5 files containing hidden geometry (designated as "No Show") into CreoView format, preserving the hidden status.
  • The converted output will include hidden geometry explicitly flagged as such, allowing downstream users to distinguish between visible and hidden elements.
  • This capability will be configurable and override the current default behavior, which either ignores hidden geometry or converts it as visible

Use Cases :

  • Use Case 1: Design Review with Full Model Context
    • Scenario: A design engineer is preparing a model for a cross-functional review in CreoView. The CATIA V5 model includes hidden geometry representing alternate configurations and tooling references.
    • Steps:
    1. Engineer uses CADverter to convert the CATIA V5 model into CreoView format.
    2. Default configuration is set to include hidden geometry flagged as such
    3. .Review participants toggle visibility of hidden geometry to understand design intent and evaluate alternate configurations.
    • Benefit: Ensures complete context during review, reducing misinterpretation and rework.

  • Use Case 2: Manufacturing Planning
    • Scenario: A manufacturing engineer uses CreoView to plan tooling and fixture design. Hidden geometry in the CATIA V5 model includes critical tooling interfaces.
    • Steps:
    1. CADverter conversion includes hidden geometry flagged for visibility.
    2. Engineer identifies tooling interfaces and integrates them into fixture planning.
    3. Hidden geometry is used to avoid collisions and ensure proper fit.
    • Benefit: Improves planning accuracy and reduces tooling errors.
  • Use Case 3: Supplier Collaboration
    • Scenario: A supplier receives a CreoView model for quoting and feasibility analysis. For IP protection, hidden geometry includes optional features should not be part of the viewable.
    • Steps:
    1. CADverter is configured to ignore hidden geometry during conversion.
    2. Supplier reviews only visible features to assess scope.
    3. Supplier provides feedback and quote based on given model context.
