Bulk Indexing performing slowly and Solr JVM going out of memory in Windchill PDMLink
Modified: 08-Jul-2025
Applies To
- Windchill PDMLink 11.0 M020-CPS16 to 12.0.1.1
- Solr 8.6.1
Description
- Bulk Indexing performing slowly and Solr JVM going out of memory
- Error displayed in Solr logs:
"ERROR null:java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" - Windchill JVM operating correctly, no errors
- Solr logs not showing errors about document indexing
- Solr GC logs have following errors:
[Full GC (Allocation Failure) 5064M->5064M(5096M), 5.2555765 secs] - Performance recommendation from CS272602 applied
- Solr logs showing high processing time when memory is getting full:
QTime: INFO [wblib] webapp=/solr path=/admin/ping params={wt=javabin&version=2} hits=0 status=0 QTime=530340 - Solr GC logs showing memory increasing constantly (indexing getting more and more slower) and after a few hours JVM entering into constant Full GC (Garbage Collection) without releasing memory
- Increase of Solr Heap will only delay the OutOfMemory occurrence
- Note: with Solr release 8.6.1, abnormal big Solr log size has also been identified, but does not impact current issue, see CS347664
