Apache Tomcat service stops immediately after starting

Description

  • Apache Tomcat will stop shortly after starting
  • ThingWorx Platform will not come up
  • Instance is no longer accessible after it has not been used for an extended period of time
    • No errors are logged within the ThingWorx logs for ThingWorx version 8.2 to 8.5
  • <ThingworxStorage>\ApplicationLog.log contains no useful errors but immediately stops logging after the following lines:
    • [L: INFO] [O: c.t.s.ThingWorxServer] [I: ] [U: SuperUser] [S: ] [T: localhost-startStop-1] Subsystem LicensingSubsystem is starting
      [L: INFO] [O: c.t.s.s.Subsystem] [I: ] [U: SuperUser] [S: ] [T: localhost-startStop-1] Starting Subsystem [LicensingSubsystem]
      [L: INFO] [O: c.t.s.s.l.LicensingStateMachine] [I: ] [U: SuperUser] [S: ] [T: localhost-startStop-1] Found existing license.bin file
    • [L: ERROR] [O: c.t.s.s.l.LicensingSubsystem] [I: ] [U: SuperUser] [S: ] [T: main] The installation grace period is over.  You must install license manually by placing the license_capability_response.bin file in thingworx platform dir
  • <Apache Tomcat>\logs\tomcat<version>-stderr.<Date Time>.log shows the following:
    • INFO [localhost-startStop-1] org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.deployWAR Deploying web application archive [<Apache Tomcat>\webapps\Thingworx.war]
      INFO [localhost-startStop-1] org.apache.jasper.servlet.TldScanner.scanJars At least one JAR was scanned for TLDs yet contained no TLDs. Enable debug logging for this logger for a complete list of JARs that were scanned but no TLDs were found in them. Skipping unneeded JARs during scanning can improve startup time and JSP compilation time.
      System property [org.owasp.esapi.opsteam] is not set
      System property [org.owasp.esapi.devteam] is not set
 
  • The following error is present within the ThingWorx logs for ThingWorx version 9.2
  • <ThingworxStorage>\ApplicationLog.log :
    • [L: ERROR] [O: c.t.s.s.l.PaidLicenseManager] [I: ] [U: SuperUser] [S: ] [P: ] [T: main] Current license is past expiration date. Shutting down the platform!
      [L: ERROR] [O: c.t.s.s.l.LicensingSubsystem] [I: ] [U: SuperUser] [S: ] [P: ] [T: main] Current license is past expiration date. Shutting down the platform!
