Browser incompatibility when using Chrome 80 and later with PingFederate version 8.4.1 for Single Sign on for PTC Products
Modified: 27-Apr-2023
Applies To
- PTC RV&S (formerly Integrity Lifecycle Manager) 12.1 to 12.2.1.1
- Windchill Navigate (formerly ThingWorx Navigate) 1.1.0 to 8.5.1
- ThingWorx Platform 7.4 to 8.5
- Windchill PDMLink 9.0 to 12.0

- Google Chrome 80
Description
- PTC provides PingFederate v 8.4.1 (license and software) to enable Single Sign-on (SSO) with SSO-enabled PTC products, specifically ThingWorx, Navigate, Windchill and Integrity
- Due to a planned change in Google Chrome, specifically with respect to its default handling of cookies that do not specify a SameSite attribute, PingFederate v 8.4.1 will no longer be compatible with the default configuration of Chrome 80 and later
- Reference the PingIdentity statement on browser compatibility and the Google statement on browser changes
- This change will be introduced beginning with Chrome 80 targeted for release on February 4, 2020
- Impact on Users with PTC products:
- Will impact implementations using PingFederate v 8.4.1 for SSO if upgrading to Chrome 80 (or later versions)
- After a browser upgrade, an incompatibility will block access to PTC Software using Chrome 80 (and later versions) unless steps are taken
- Will not impact other browsers including Firefox, Internet Explorer, or earlier versions of Google Chrome
- The only impacted SSO implementations are those involving BOTH Ping Federate 8.4.1 and Chrome 80 (and later versions)
- However, other browsers have stated an intent to implement similar handling policies in the future
