Theorem CADverter: Implications of the published Component ID attribute information being incorrect for CATIA V5 assemblies

Modified: 23-Mar-2023

Applies To

  • Windchill PDMLink 10.0 to 12.1
  • Creo View Adapters 1.0 to 9.1
  • Theorem Visualize 3D (CADverter) 15.3 to 23.4
  • Dassault CATIA V5

Description

  • PTC has identified an issue with the approach used by the Theorem CADverter to generate unique Component ID's for Full Geometry Representations
  • The Part ID attribute values displayed in Creo View are different depending across assemblies and are not stable or repeatable after republishing
  • The purpose of this article is to provide details of the issue that PTC has identified with the Part ID and Part ID Path System Properties values that are published by the Theorem CADverter at the affected releases
  • This issue does not affect Positioning Assembly Representations, which are by their nature, single level structures
  • Refer to Article CS210906 for an explanation of what the Component ID and related system properties are and their purpose

Symptoms and Implications:

  • It is use cases involving the newer capabilities listed above that are likely to be affected
  • The exact symptoms and error messages that might occur due to this issue, however, are difficult to predict because they are affected by the use case and data involved
  • Known impacts:
    • Neither Interference Detection Reports, nor Creo View Annotations will correctly transport between the Published Representations and the Dynamic Part Structure
    • Batch Interference Detection (performed by WVS jobs using CLASH workers) will not correctly associate back to the source structure
    • True Heterogeneous Assembly functionality will not behave reliably when involving CATIA V5 published data sets
