Error 1053 while starting Windchill Directory Service after installation of PTC System Monitor

Description

  • After installing PSM agent for WDS, the service fails to start (timeout ?)
  • Following error is returned when attempting to start the service for Windchill DS / Windchill Directory Service after installation of PTC System Monitor:
Windows could not start the Windchill Directory Server service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
  • WindchillDS/log/dt_ptc.wt.WindchillDS_<pid>.log reports:
info    [native] Trying to connect to Server for up to 0 seconds
severe  [native] Exception while connecting to collector, info:<connect()/apr_socket_connect(), 730061, Connection refused>
warning [native] Unable to register with Server XXXX:9999, CONTINUING WITHOUT INSTRUMENTATION.
  • Similar Windows error is reported upon service shutdown and Windchill DS java.exe process is not terminated.
    • This only occurs if the service has initially failed to start as mentioned above.
