In March, we launched our Product Design Contest: Showcase Your Greatness. People from more than 60 countries submitted their best models made in Creo 3D CAD software for a chance to win cash, a spot in an upcoming eBook, and – for the winners – a trip to LiveWorx, held in June in Boston.
Recently, we introduced the winners in this blog. Now, we’d like to tell you more about the best of the best:
The design: Mark and his team developed a LED task light (the Revo lamp) that not only looks cool, but acts as a desk lamp and a standalone floor light. The design is based on a previous product, with enhancements thanks to Creo.
Clean lines meet configurable options with Mark Meyer’s award-winning lamp.
Biggest design challenge: Mark says getting all of the parts completed, getting them to fit together, getting springs to work right, and getting it all done before deadline (sound familiar?) was the biggest challenge. The team prevailed though – the product is now in production.
Why did he choose Creo for his product design software? Mark says he’s been using PTC design software since 1996 and “chose Creo for its great parametric capabilities and 3D modeling and surfacing tools.” Also, Creo is used by many of his company’s customers in the furniture industry, allowing his team at LightCorp to work directly with the companies to develop products.
Biggest advantage to using Creo? The big one: Great 3D modeling and surfacing tools, says Meyer.
Did the software surprise you while working on this project? Meyer says he had to create some complex sweeps to create the inner structure of this design. “Creo allowed me to create the model exactly to my design intent,” he adds.

What the judges said: “The design was very elegant in its simplicity. It had some very nice clean lines associated with it, but was also configurable. It was very highly detailed and was impressive.”
