What Is PTC Modeler?

Discover features and capabilities that support your use cases.

SysML 2.0 is the next-generation language for modeling systems designed to facilitate a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach to complex product development. PTC Modeler 10.3 and SysML 2.0 offer the capabilities to create and visualize models that represent many different aspects of a system, including requirements, structure, behavior, and verification.

SysML 2.0 capabilities will be released incrementally over multiple versions of PTC Modeler, beginning with version 10.0.

  • SysML 2 Textual Notation Exporter allows users to easily export SysML 2 models to .sysml files, which can be saved and accessed using a text editor or IDE (interactive development environment), used to share models with other SysML 2-compliant applications, and copied to AI tools for model review, analysis, natural language queries, trade studies/optimization, document generation, and more.
  • SysML 2 Lite User Role can be used to provide a simplified, easier-to-learn user experience. The User Role hides many of the non-essential metamodel types, making model creation, editing, and comprehension much easier for non-experts. This solution is delivered as an XML file that is easy to modify, adapt, and share. When users are more mature in their MBSE adoption, they can simply use the standard User Role and access the full SysML 2 features and metamodel.

Usability

PTC Modeler 10.3 includes usability improvements that increase productivity when viewing and modifying item properties:

  • The new Property Grid feature provides an improved user experience, using a non-modal pane that can be floating, docked, and re-sized. The Property Grid only displays properties that are relevant to the selected type. Properties for multiple items can be viewed at the same time using multiple panes, easier navigation for related or linked items, and a user-configurable layout. The new Property Grid works with UML and SysML 1 and 2 models.
  • Enhanced database management makes it easier to add SQL instances in Model Explorer, and tools for database monitoring and optimization and audit logging.

Digital Thread integrations

PTC Modeler 10.3 includes support for single sign-on when working with OSLC integrations for Codebeamer, Windchill PLM, and PTC Modeler, using PingFederate as the identify provider (IdP).

Performance

PTC Modeler 10.3 includes improvements for overall application performance in the following areas:

  • Database-stored procedures and data access layer optimization
  • Improved property reading
  • Item pre-loading loads diagram elements into memory while the user is idle
  • Profile helper optimization
  • Cache optimization
  • Client-side code refactoring

Model simulation

PTC Modeler 10.3 includes support for the latest version of Ansys ModelCenter, 2026 R1.

Infrastructure

PTC Modeler 10.3 supports cloud deployment in Azure, including user management by Entra ID. Azure Virtual Desktop is also supported, providing another option for Modeler desktop virtualization.

Benefits of using PTC Modeler 10.3

PTC Modeler 10.3 delivers powerful new capabilities for working with SysML 2 textual notation, usability improvements for accessing item properties and managing databases, performance improvements, single sign-on, and support for Azure Cloud deployment. These updates can help users realize key benefits, including:

  • Increased productivity with better access to product data
  • Improved product quality with updates to SysML 2.0 and AI-driven model review, analysis, and optimization
  • Shorter development time and reduced costs with a simplified SysML 2.0 solution
  • Reduced IT costs and risks with the Azure deployment option and SSO
