Search/Find in worksheet functionality is less comfortable in Mathcad Prime

Modified: 20-May-2025

Applies To

  • Mathcad Prime 1.0 to 11.0

Description

  • Search/Find in worksheet functionality is less comfortable:
    • Search Subscript
      • Expected:
        • Copy & Paste a variable with subscript into the Find field to search for it
      • Observed:
        • A kind of scripted text appears and the variable with subscript cannot be found
      • Example:
        • (@LABEL VARIABLE (@ID M (@SUB box))) stands for image.png
      • Search Greek letters and any characters not on the current keyboard
        • Expected:
          • Avoid Copy & Paste and instead enter subscripts and Greek letters right in the Find field
        • Observed:
          • Utilize Copy & Paste to put the search string to the Find field
        • Example:
          • Copy & Paste a specific Greek Letter which is right visible in the Worksheet, to search for
      • Search in Areas
        • Expected:
          • Search a word in the entire worksheet including each and any collapsed (but unprotected)  areas AND keep collapsed areas collapsed where nothing is found.
        • Observed up to Mathcad Prime 8:
          • collapsed areas are skipped if collapsed and must be expanded prior
        • Observed since Mathcad Prime 9:
          • Collapsed areas (if not protected) are expanded in any case (Find was successful or unsuccessful).
          • One must re-collapse each area after. This is undocumented new functionality compared to Mathcad Prime 8.
          • Search for blank " " one by one? This is not documented in Mathcad Prime Help
        • Observed in all Mathcad Prime:
          • Impossible to collapse all areas at once
      • Find and highlight
        • Expected:
          • Highlight the specific text only
        • Observed:
          • Once found text in a term, the entire term is highlighted
      • Usability
        • Expected:
          • Enter the text to search + Enter key to start
        • Observed:
          • The ENTER key appears in the worksheet creating a new line at cursor location
        • Expected:
          • Support of placeholders, for example test*  to find test1, test2, test3 etc
        • Observed:
          • not supported
      • Workaround, off Mathcad Prime:
        • Save the file to a PDF and use the PDF Search functionality
    • The Replace function shows similar restrictions
