Tips & Tricks: Cabling Support in Creo's Vizualization Software

We have talked before about the powerful cabling capabilities in Creo Harness Manufacturing Extension (HMX). But, did you know  Creo View MCAD, our 3D visualization software, also features advanced cabling support? With Creo View MCAD, non-CAD users can review cabling parameters. This new support for richer cabling data reduces the risk of interpretation errors.

Advanced cabling support of Creo View MCAD allows you to view the connections of an assembly’s wire harness.

Here's how it works. Suppose you want to carry out a detailed design review. Anybody with a Creo Parametric cabling assembly saved as a .pvz file can open the file in Creo View MCAD. Then, they can access the more granular information of harness wires and connectors.

To interact with the harness, follow these steps:

  1. Select each wire individually to review the wire’s routing. As shown in the image above where the green wire was selected and the routing is highlighted.
  2. Press F7 to open a pane that shows the parameters of each individual wire.
  3. Select a wire on the assembly or in the Model Tree to view that wire’s parameters in the parameters pane below the graphics area.

Wire W007 is highlighted in the Model Tree and in the assembly. The wire’s parameters are also shown in the pane at the bottom of the window.
