In its March 23, 2023 Forrester Wave™ report, the global research firm named PTC Windchill a leader in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), with top scores in more than 70% of the criteria defined.
The Windchill platform, PTC's proven, end-to-end PLM solution for more that 12,000 discrete clients worldwide, is further distinguished as the sole market leader in the "Long Product Lifecycle Design" criterion. This indicates unrivalled leadership in capabilities leveraging the digital thread, a critical consideration for every modern manufacturer. Forrester cites PTC's "compelling innovation roadmap" as the foundation of its strategy "to deliver a platform supporting the most demanding digital thread for asset intensive manufacturers."
Forrester's comprehensive report involved research conducted across the 10 most significant vendors in the PLM marketplace [including Autodesk, Dassault, Oracle, Siemens, and others]. Each company's offering, and the cohort as a whole, were evaluated across nearly two dozen criteria to discern relative value delivery for those criteria believed to be most germane to discrete manufacturers. See Forrester's evaluation of Windchill here.
Complementing (and amplifying) its dominance in managing the digital thread, PTC Windchill achieved Forrester's top ranking - "Superior relative to others in the evaluation" - in 16 of 22 criteria. Highlights among these include perfect scores in "Product Vision," "Execution Roadmap," and "Platform Characteristics."
The report's concluding "Overview" section, which distills all criteria into seven major vectors of PLM value delivery, also awards PTC Windchill top ranking in five of them:
- Innovation Roadmap: "...exploits a platform foundation to deliver product upgrades more frequently than every two years; successfully embeds modern technologies like XR and AI."
- Supporting Products and Services: "...availability of partner network services, best practices, and app exchanges..."
- Partner Ecosystem: "...at least 1000 partners."
- Delivery Model: "...free downloadable version, multiple cloud options and sovereign instances."
- Commercial Model: "...named user licensing, flexibility for fluctuations in user population, transparent pricing..."
Forrester summarizes its evaluation of PTC Windchill's appeal as most compelling to "asset-intensive, high-tech industrial and transportation manufacturers exploiting IoT data and prioritizing sustainability in their transition to smart manufacturing."
