As is becoming alarmingly clear, the COVID-19 pandemic has created shortages of medical supplies globally. In an effort to stop the spread of the virus, companies around the world are coming together to produce personal protective equipment (PPE), point-of-care testing, ventilators, and more.
Earlier this month, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged UK industrial, technology, and engineering businesses from across the aerospace, automotive, and medical sectors to increase the production of ventilators, in what is now internationally known as the VentilatorChallengeUK Consortium.
COVID-19 hero and PTC customer Smiths Medical is one of many companies that has stepped up during this time of crisis and will participate in the VentilatorChallengeUK Consortium. Smiths Medical has contracted with the UK government to significantly increase the production of their top-tier, lifesaving ventilator, the paraPAC plus™. They are on target to increase production of these portable and lightweight ventilators from hundreds of units per month to 10,000, saving countless lives as the world fights the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is our duty and an honor to be supporting the UK government to save as many lives as possible," stated CEO of Smiths Medical, Andrew Reynolds, in a recent press release. "We are playing a key role working with the VentilatorChallengeUK Consortium to put in place the production and component capability to increase manufacturing of our lightweight portable ventilator as fast as possible,”
We thank and applaud Smiths Medical, and all those involved in the fight against COVID-19.
