[Update: This post was published in December 2017. Creo 5.0 dropped in March 2018, so we have a few updates for you. To start with, you can now download a free 30-day trial version of Creo 5.0. Just click here. If you want more details about what's in the official release, read the rest of this article below. But also make sure to check out these posts:

Finally, to make sure you hear about pre-release testing in the future (Creo 6.0 is due out in March 2019), subscribe to PTC Express newsletter.]

In Creo 5.0 Sneak Peek, participants tested enhancements well before the actual release. Here are just a few we made available:

Remove Pipe Segment minimizes the number of pipe cuts and welds on your design.

A pipeline composed of 12 joints requiring 12 weld operations, 6 pipe cuts, and 6 pipes—more complex than needed.

.

Creo’s new Remove Pipe Segment tool quickly reduced the design to 4 pipes with 10 welds and 4 pipe cuts.

Heli-coil inserts are now easy to design to your fastener assemblies. These Heli-coils provide a way to protect and strengthen tapped threads. So bolt tensile strength can be balanced against parent material shear strength, assuring bolt failure rather than parent material damage.

New commands for showing and hiding give you easier control over visibility too.

Check out the new Volume Helical Sweep tool to create accurate 3D geometric representations for parts that are machined with cutting tools.

The Volume Helical Sweep in a screw conveyor scenario. Define a helix with constant or variable helix pitch, and apply an adjustment angle of RX=90 degrees.

Use the Sketch Region selection to quickly create geometry with selected sketch-based features. This command reduces the need to perform project and trim operations within Sketcher. It also offers a flexible way to use portions of a single sketch as the basis for several sketch-based features.

A Sketch Region is a closed contour defined by sketched entities and their intersection with coplanar 3D edges in the part geometry.

Easily apply drafts to design models containing rounds and chamfers. This addresses the frequent difficulty to apply drafts to rounded base part models from the design department or to imported models containing rounds and chamfers.

We expand the presence of the Mini Toolbar too. For example, 3D Annotations fully support mini toolbars for faster and more intuitive command access in object-action workflows.

Click a 3D annotation in the graphics area to see the corresponding context-sensitive mini toolbar.

You can now reach annotation mini toolbars from the Model Tree or Detail Tree.

Enhanced functionality related to Additive Manufacturing includes:

  • Simplified Visualization
  • Truss cell
  • Conical Beams in simulate

Subtractive Manufacturing improved too:

  • Conventional Milling
  • NC Parameters
  • Slice by Slice

For those using Creo Simulate, note these fixes and enhancements:

  • Finite and infinite:
    • Quality Index Measure
    • Solver Accuracy input
    • Detailed Stresses Input
    • Max penetration Measure Output
    • MaxPenetrationInput
  • Automatic refinement of shell elements
  • Heat load on simplified lattice

And in sheet metal, new types of corner reliefs provide more geometrical solutions.

The process for defining a simplified representation of a sheet metal part in the flatten state, while having the master representation in the formed (bent) state, is simpler too.

You can easily switch from a bent to a flattened state when modeling a sheet metal part. And, the system doesn’t create or require additional Windchill business objects.

Defining a flat pattern representation of a sheet metal part.

With the enhanced Convert to Sheetmetal tool, you can convert solid parts into sheet metal parts –while still enforcing uniform thickness. The improvements support the import of sheet metal parts from legacy systems and the conversion into valid Creo Parametric sheet metal parts.

The Conversion tool now supports conversion of solid parts into sheet metal parts, even if the part contains non-uniform thickness.

Interested in Freestyle modeling? Look for these enhancements in the sneak peek:

  • Slice Mesh by Plane
  • Enable Box Creation Mode
  • Align Curvature Connection

Plus, the following enhancements to the Style tool:

  • Symmetric Curve Support
  • Resolve Mode Overhaul
  • Mini-Toolbar in Style

We’ve also enhanced the graphics feature, Design in Perspective.

Finally, ModelCHECK has a New MC Report.
