Sandbox create operation does not create file system folders on Windows when the Project path contains an invalid Windows filename character in Windchill RV&S (formerly Integrity Lifecycle Manager)
Modified: 11-Feb-2026
Applies To
- PTC RV&S (formerly Integrity Lifecycle Manager) 11.0 to 13.4
Description
- When you create subprojects using the Subproject > Create option, they may contain unsupported Windows filename characters as these characters are allowed on the Integrity Server. However, such characters can cause issues when creating sandboxes on Windows. The unsupported characters include, but are not limited to, >, <, /, \, *, ?, ", :, and |.
- If a project or sub-project name on the PTC RV&S Server includes any of these characters, which are not recognized by the client’s operating system, sandboxes are not created for such projects or their associated sub-projects.
- You may particularly face this issue when switching the locale to English from a language that uses special characters. In such cases, the project names may contain accentuated characters such as accents, umlauts, or tildes, which can cause problems.
- The following error is seen in the Integrity Client GUI
- When Subproject names contain |, * or ?
- MKS125450: Subproject MKS125237: The operation could not be completed because the sandbox file is not accessible. Please ensure that the file exists and that it is not in use by another application.: Illegal_SubProject_Name/project.pj
- When Subproject names contain > or <
- Failed to populate sandbox path_to_top_level_sandbox/project.pj MKS124803: Internal error detected: Exception was: java.nio.file.InvalidPathException: Illegal char <>> at index 59: path_to_illgeal_char_subproject/project.pj
- When Subproject names contain "
- No error is seen in the Integrity Client GUI or the IntegrityClient.log file and the Sandbox view seems to reflect the Sandbox was created successfully
- When Subproject names contain |, * or ?
- Resync fails with error:
- mks.si.api.SIException: mks.si.api.SIException: MKS125450: Subproject MKS125237: The operation could not be completed because the sandbox file is not accessible.
