The Internet of Things is a system of systems. There are elements in the “cloud” that run on traditional servers using IT infrastructure and there are elements at the “edge” that use embedded systems. Java language is one of the most useful technologies for implementing IoT gateways. Java outperforms C++ with automatic garbage collection, robust exception handling, built-in threading model and an abundance of libraries for doing all things an IoT gateway requires.
Although Java is one of the most popular languages, when it comes to real-time response, standard Java SE comes up short.
PTC’s very own Software Development Director, Randy Rorden, has released a whitepaper titled “"Real-Time Java Gateways: When Milliseconds Matter" explaining the importance of real-time response and why PTC Perc is the answer.
