Converting Your Worksheets to Mathcad Prime 2.0 in 3 Easy Steps

PTC Mathcad Prime 2.0 is a new version of Mathcad with an entire new user interface and front end.

Worksheets from earlier versions of PTC Mathcad cannot be opened directly into Mathcad Prime 2.0. Instead we have provided an XMCD, MCD Converter that can run in batch mode to convert many files at once or to convert an individual worksheet.

You can run the XMCD, MCD Converter from the Start > Program menu:


Or run the converter directly from inside Mathcad Prime 2.0.


Converting Worksheets to Mathcad Prime 2.0

Mathcad 15 M010

You need Mathcad 15 M010 or higher on your system to convert earlier worksheets into Mathcad Prime 2.0. The purchase of Mathcad Prime 2.0 includes a free copy of Mathcad 15 M010. You can find the trial version of Mathcad 15 from a link at the bottom of this page,

Step 1. Open the XMCD, MCD Converter from the Start menu or the Input/Output tab of Mathcad Prime 2.0.

Step 2: Browse to the worksheets you want to convert. You can add multiple worksheets from all earlier versions of Mathcad and from different folders. The converter shows you the path and version of Mathcad.

Step 2b: If your worksheet had references to other worksheets, you can click on “Add References,” and those worksheets will be converted as well.


Step 3: Select the worksheets to convert and press the Convert button.

The Converter shows you the status of each worksheet as it progresses through the conversion.


Once a worksheet has been converted to the same folder as the source worksheet, you can open it directly in Mathcad Prime 2.0.

The original worksheets remain untouched. A conversion log lists any regions with differences.

Opening a Converted Worksheet in Mathcad Prime 2.0

The converted worksheets open initially with the same results as the original worksheet. Once you recalculate, if any results are different, you will see the updated results. All differences between the earlier worksheet and Mathcad Prime 2.0 are noted with an annotation. The differences are categorized as:

  • Display differences that do not affect results
  • Calculation differences that may affect results
  • Unsupported features in Mathcad Prime 2.0

Any feature, which is not supported in Mathcad Prime 2.0, appears as an image, so that no data is lost from your original worksheet.



Plots do not appear until you recalculate the worksheet by pressing F5 or F9.
