Management Forum: acatech Industrie 4.0 Maturity Index This session is of interest for individuals planning or managing Industrie 4.0 projects and will allow for an interactive debate. Digital transfomation is more than new tools. The term Industrie 4.0 has been used since 2011 to describe the widespread integration of information and communication technology in industrial manufacturing. Beside evolving from a technology perspective, companies now need to transform their organization and culture to adapt. The acatech Industrie 4.0 Maturity Model outlines and describes companies' readiness for Industrie 4.0. Manufacturing companies are able to get detailed recommendations on how they can implement operational strategy and make the most of Industrie 4.0 to transform themselves into learning, agile organizations. Christian Hocken Managing Partner at Industrie 4.0 Maturity Center, RWTH Aachen
Battery cell production equipped with PTCs innovation platform to unlock I4.0 value (initial project) The PEM of RWTH Aachen is electrified by a future of sustainable mobility. PEM's innovation processes are radically more efficient and offer technical research and advice in all areas of electro mobile production.

The core element of an electric vehicle is the battery. For many years, PEM has been one of the leaders in the field of battery production for the lithium-ion battery. In this context PEM has started to digitize the production line for pouch cells, modules and packs which is located in Aachen. The presentation gives an overview of the results of the initial project started in July 2017.
Christoph Lienemann Group Leader Battery Production Technologies, Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) at RWTH Aachen University
Industrie 4.0:  Accelerating Industrial Innovation in the Factory

There is little debate that the fourth industrial revolution (Industrie 4.0) will dramatically accelerate performance improvement across the industrial value chain. But, while the concept appears obvious, the road to value is less clear.
Unlike the first three industrial revolutions that were focused within the factory -- 1.0: Mechanization, 2.0: Electrification, 3.0: Automation – Industrie 4.0 spans the factory as well as it’s extended value chain and thus merits a well-designed digital transformation vision and roadmap.

In this session I will discuss how organizations can implement Industrie 4.0 to:

  • Understand – Connect to and contextualize the many disparate sources and structures of data and information that define the digital backbone.
  • Advance– Apply advanced digital technologies to drive predictive outcomes, improve workforce efficiency, increase manufacturing agility and enable rapid continuous innovation.
  • Outperform – Extend digital processes to the extended enterprise to optimize processes, synchronize operations, conduct performance benchmarking and integrate the extended value chain.
It’s time to think digital.  It has never been easier or faster to innovate than it is in today’s digitally enabled factory.   An agile think big, start small, scale fast approach to realizing value is the new normal for digital manufacturing enterprises.
