We’re celebrating the announcement of Windchill 11 this month (you’ve watched the telecast, right?). But before we start raving about the new vision and features in the release, I want to take this one last opportunity to salute the very hot designs we’ve seen from companies already using our PLM software. Some of these you may have seen before, some not. All of them we hope to see much more of in the future:
The Vectus personal rapid transport (PRT) vehicle is a small-capacity (about 6 people) electric car on a rail. PRTs don’t require a driver. Plus, you don’t have to keep them in the garage at night or buy them auto insurance. They’re public transportation—but with a little privacy. The PRT can take one of many routes. It can change direction and speed as it operates on a system with dozens of other cars each on their own unique paths.
To make this people mover real, a team of engineers all over the world works on rails, stations, and vehicles. That takes an enormous amount of coordination. Read about how they did it.
