Staying Safe: Managing Requirements in Safety-Critical Industries

Manufacturers in most industries have a set of requirements they must follow. Whether these include product or customer requirements or industry-set ones. While the requirements are very important, for manufacturers in safety-critical industries, following these requirements can be life or death. For manufacturers in medical device, automotive, and aerospace, requirements can mean life or death.  “If we overlook safety, we won’t survive,” says Shivata Choudhry, Staff Software Test Engineer at Stryker Endoscopy. However, managing these requirements throughout the product lifecycle – from design, engineering, production, and into the field – can be an overwhelming task if there isn’t a way for the organization to manage requirements.

Stryker Endoscopy, for example, originally tracked its requirements in a Word document. This method made traceability of requirements difficult. With Integrity Lifecycle Manager, PTC’s requirements management and traceability solution, requirements information is all linked together (from design and system requirements to test cases and test sessions).

This really helps Stryker Endoscopy keep the pressure off when the FDA audits them. The team can quickly export all of their requirements information and proof that the products have been tested.

What the video to hear how Stryker Endoscopy transformed the way it manages its requirements.
