Routed Systems Enhancements in Creo 4.0

Explore These 3 Enhancements First

You’ve likely heard that the recent update to our powerful 3D CAD software platform—Creo 4.0—includes hundreds of enhancements. And while we think they’re all worth checking out, our product managers all have their own pet features that they think are most important.

For example, Jose Coronado, a manufacturing expert, thinks the new lattice creation capabilities will prove invaluable to anybody who uses 3D printing. Ask Arnaud van de Veerdonk about this release, and he’ll want you to show you the new Notification Center and intelligent mirroring capabilities.

That said, if you work with electrical or hydraulic systems, you don’t want to miss Jim Barrett-Smith’s picks for the most important new capabilities in Creo 4.0. Barrett-Smith is a product manager who focuses on routed systems, and he believes this is one of Creo’s greatest releases. Here are the three new enhancements he recommends you explore first:

Simplified Piping and Cabling Workflows

Within the Creo Piping and Cabling Extension (PCX), it’s now easier to set up files which are the foundations of the highly automated creation of pipelines and placements of fittings. Best of all, the number of files required to set up the automation has been significantly reduced. This makes it easier for librarians to maintain a specification-driven piping library.

Plus, now you can automatically create specification files for fittings directly from a 3D model. Take a look:

But that’s not all. Once you define your specification library you can now use the new interactive validation tool to verify the piping library has been set up correctly; should there be any issues with the library, you can sort the errors by file type, file name, or status. “Together, these enhancements significantly reduce the librarian’s workload during the creation and quality assurance of the piping specification files,” says Barrett-Smith.

Easier to View and Edit Cable Harnesses

When you’re working with a cabling harness, note that the Creo Harness Manufacturing Extension (HMX) now supports more flattening scenarios, such as multiple, splices, marks, back shells, and manifolds. These new capabilities provide more detailed harness manufacturing drawings. Furthermore, you can now edit the flattened layout, and the drawings are automatically updated.

Relations for Cable Diameters to Hole Dimensions

With Creo 4.0, you can create relations for bundle diameters, wire diameters, and locations. In other words, you can use the diameter of a cable (or harness) to drive the dimensions of a hole. “So as the harness gets bigger,” says Barrett-Smith, “The hole diameter will also change.” A small, but powerful enhancement that “should not be underestimated,” he adds.
