I have installed Pro/ENGINEER 2001 Student Edition and when I run it, I get an error message that says the CD isn't in the drive?

In order to start Pro/ENGINEER 2001 Student Edition, the CD must be in the first CD-ROM drive in your system before you start the software.

Some DVD drives may not be recognized as CD-ROM drives, therefore, the program can't detect the CD in the drive and will not start.

What does the error "Out of Environment Space" mean?

On all Windows 98/ME platforms, the "Initial Environment Space" must be set to "4096" before starting Pro/ENGINEER 2001 Student Edition. Normally, this should happen automatically, however, right clicking on the Student Edition shortcut and selecting Properties can set this. Within the Memory tab, increase the Initial Environment Space to 4096. Select Apply.

I launch Pro/ENGINEER 2001 Student Edition and get the splash screen, then it goes away but the program does not start. What do I do?

First, you will need to right-click on your "My Computer" icon on your desktop. From the resulting menu, select Properties. This will display a dialog box with 4 tabs on it. Select the Performance tab. On the Performance tab, there will be three large buttons near the bottom. Select the Graphics button. This brings up the Hardware Acceleration dialog box, which is a slider that can be set from none to full. The default setting in Windows is full. Move this slider all the way to none. Select OK at the bottom, which will close the window and the exit the System Properties dialog box. This will then give a prompt to restart your machine. Click yes to restart it, now Pro/ENGINEER 2001 Student Edition should start.

If Pro/ENGINEER Student Edition still doesn't run after setting your acceleration to none, right-click on your desktop and select Properties from the menu. This will display the Display Settings Dialog box. Select the Settings tab and locate the Color Palette or Color Depth setting. Set this value to be 256 colors. Apply it and exit the Display Properties box. You should now be able to run the program.
