Can Pro/ENGINEER open Pro/DESKTOP files?
Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire can open Pro/DESKTOP parts and assemblies. Also thanks to the power of Granite Pro/ENGINEER will also read meta-data, i.e. if a Pro/DESKTOP part has an assigned density this density information is passed through to Pro/ENGINEER.

If the Pro/DESKTOP part is modified and saved the part in Pro/ENGINEER can be updated by selecting the feature group in the Pro/ENGINEER feature tree and redefining it. In the redefine dialog click on the Update geomtools model checkbox.

Pro/DESKTOP can also export 2D sketch geometry via the PTC Associative Topology Bus (ATB) under File>Export>Pro/DESKTOP ATB file. This file can then be imported into Pro/ENGINEER and the geometry used to create Pro/ENGINEER features.

What hardware platforms does Pro/DESKTOP run on?
Pro/DESKTOP is supported/validated only on the Windows/Intel platforms. There are a number of Users running Pro/DESKTOP on Apple machines under Windows emulation, but this is not a supported platform.
