What’s the news with this release?

PTC is expanding the industry’s most comprehensive shipbuilding solution with CADDS 5 15.0 and Optegra 15.0. CADDS 5, PTC’s specialized CAD/CAM solution, is the optimal solution for shipbuilders and discrete manufacturers that create products with massive assembly requirements. CADDS 5 15.0 and Optegra 15.0 offer key productivity enhancements across the product line, that will help improve product development processes:

• Increase your productivity with the new single window rendering graphics environment. Manipulate the rendering state of individual views between Wire Frame, Hidden Line and Shaded to suit the task in hand. Apply translucency to view clearly in congested environments.
• Improve ease of use with revamped dynamics capabilities. Dynamics is now always active within a CADDS 5 session and the new Middle Mouse button and keyboard combinations provides easier to use, powerful model navigation capabilities compared with previous releases; these capabilities may be supplemented by using 3D Navigation Device.
• Enhance communication through View clipping and Viewstates. Improve visibility of complex graphics scenarios and speed interaction by viewing and manipulating reduced datasets.
• Increase drawing efficiency through semi-automatic labeling from templates. Quickly annotate your drawing from a user defined template controlling what objects to label and the label content. Automatically update annotation if the object attributes or template format changes.
• Decrease misunderstanding and down stream errors by early Clash Detection and Management. Planned for launch at CADDS 5 15.0 M010 this powerful tool not only allows detection but enables you to uniquely manage each clash through to resolution. *

What are some of the specific improvements by application area in CADDS 5 15.0 and Optegra 15.0?

Intuitive Shipbuilding

• Ship Reference System – The ability to display a Java tree of the ship reference system and graphically display references provides a more beneficial, ship-oriented view of the design. The added advantage of selecting references either graphically or from the tree in structural and routed systems applications results in a powerful and familiar working environment for shipbuilders.

Routed Systems Design

• HVAC Flat Oval section support – Enables HVAC system design using a more efficient and easier to manufacture duct section type.
• HVAC Non standard section types – Support of non standard Quarter Circle and Rectangular Cut-off section gives a powerful capability in submarine design where space constraints often preclude the use of standard section types.
• New Cableway Section types – Support of Trapezoidal and Rectangular cut-off sections give a powerful tool in all complex shipbuilding scenarios. Support of Circular sections allows the physical modelling of cables paths between the cableway and their connections a must when available space is severely limited.
• Cableway Branching – Multiple branching of cableways enable complex paths to be developed whilst ensuring network continuity for routing cables.
• Equipment Modelling – New advanced primitive shapes have been introduced enable the fast modelling of equipment types using lightweight methods that reduce database size compared to solids or surfacing technologies.

Structural

• Automated Definition of Deck and Hull joints – Save valuable time by creating typical joints automatically.
• Flexible Manufacturing Output Control – Aid the manufacturing process by giving greater content and control of plate cutout marking and complex double curvature stiffeners.

What new modules are available with CADDS 5 15.0 and OPTEGRA 15.0?

• CADDS 5 Clash Detection and Management System

The powerful new Clash Detection and Management System (CDM) will be available with CADDS 5 15.0 M010, expected in May 2008.* This application, working with both CADDS 5 and Optegra gives the ability to not only detect clashes, but to individually and uniquely manage them using ORACLE tables as the repository.  

The EPD.Connect Environment enables global clash detection, reviewing and status reclassification on the master vaulted assembly and parts using EPD.Visualiser as the visualization tool.

In addition to global clashing the CADDS 5 environment gives each user a local clash capability enabling them to check as they work, both against objects they have created and modified and the vaulted master assembly and its parts.
CDM may also be used outside of CADDS and EPD.Connect but with restricted functionality.

What training is needed for getting CADDS 5 15.0 and OPTEGRA 15.0 solutions rapidly into production?

The new enhancements are intuitive and easy to use. They are described in the What’s New and product documentation. How can I get CADDS 5 15.0 and OPTEGRA 15.0?

PTC is no longer automatically shipping CDs and DVDs for new product releases to all active maintenance customers. As with other maintenance releases you can conveniently download the software or order your free CD/DVD from the PTC support site. You will also need to contact PTC and request a license upgrade to enable access to CADDS 5 15.0.
