Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Support - Next Generation Computing

Supporting Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

On April 20, 2005, PTC officially announced support for Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 running on the new operating system from Microsoft, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. This was made possible through our strategic partnerships with both HP and IBM, who assisted PTC with the porting and qualification effort.

Some of the key benefits of running Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 on Microsoft Windows XP x64 Edition are:

  • Ideal solution to deal with large assemblies
  • Improved memory allocation
  • Improved 32-bit to 64-bit migration on the same system
  • Reduced time working around 32-bit limitations
  • Improved total cost of ownership and price performance
  • Improved productivity boost dealing with simultaneous running applications, such as Pro/ENGNEER and Pro/ENGINEER Structural and Thermal Simulation

PTC will make Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 (Datecode M120) supported on Microsoft XP Professional x64 Edition available for download on May 9, 2005, from the Download Software Updates page on ptc.com.

Note:This version will only be available from the Download Software Updates page on ptc.com and will not be distributed on CDs. However, with the release of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0, customers will be able to order CDs for this supported operating system.

The initial release of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 (Datecode M120) supported on Microsoft XP Professional x64 Edition, will be considered Preproduction and not require a licensing to run. Our intent is to enable our customers a chance to evaluate this exciting advancement in computing without the constraints of licensing. PTC is offering this Preproduction version with integrated Flex3C capabilities for a period of six months.

The list of functionality included in the preproduction version will be:

PTC will be officially releasing the production version of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 supported on Microsoft XP Professional x64 Edition with the Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 (M160) build. This build will be fully licensed and will require customers to install a new version of FLEXlm from that given build. The supported version of FLEXlm from Macrovision is called FLEXnet Publisher 10.8. This is the first version from Macrovision that supports Microsoft XP Professional x64 Edition.

Note: Customers are not required to generate new licenses for this new platform. However, they are required to upgrade to a new version of FLEXlm. This new version can be obtained for any operating system from the Pro/ENGINEER installation image with the corresponding build number.

Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 supported on Microsoft XP Professional x64 Edition will be supported in the following languages:

  • English
  • German
  • Spanish
  • French
  • Italian
  • Japanese

PTC has expanded the hardware support for Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 running on Microsoft Windows XP x64 by including specific DELL and SUN qualified workstations.
