PTC® Solutions Provide Critical Foundation for Joint Strike Fighter Program at Lockheed Martin

PTC's Windchill Solutions provide real time access to the Program's Integrated Management Framework

NEEDHAM, Mass., -- April 10, 2002 -- PTC (NASDAQ: PMTC), the product development company™, today announced significant progress in providing the infrastructure for Lockheed Martin's Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Program, the largest procurement program in Pentagon history. Although JSF is still in its early stages, it is the critical time to put all of the foundational structure in place. With a project of this magnitude involving many subcontractors, it will be vital that design and program data is efficiently shared. PTC's Windchill® solutions provide the critical foundation and infrastructure for this vast project.

Windchill is backbone for IMF
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics implemented the Integrated Management Framework (IMF) as the backbone for the JSF Program. The IMF, based on PTC's Windchill collaboration and control foundational software, serves as the framework for management of all design and program data. IMF uniquely enables JSF partners, suppliers, and customers throughout the world to gather overall status of the program including earned value, schedules, cost data and potential risks. IMF empowers a virtual work team, providing collaboration capabilities that span the globe.

"PTC's Windchill provides Web-based portal access to all of the critical program data allowing the sharing of status and metrics throughout the program," states Henry J. Levine, Lockheed Martin vice president and deputy of JSF program Air System. "Global collaboration is a key component to the success of this program."

IMF enables data sharing and access control
IMF ensures not only the sharing of program data, but also the necessary control. While data sharing is critical for the JSF program, controlled access of certain proprietary data is also necessary. Special security requirements are easily managed with the Windchill architecture.

IMF provides wide range of data management capabilities
Another key component of the IMF is its automated data management capabilities that provide configuration control and workflow management. All of the suppliers and customers become integrated components of the overall workflow, allowing them to make real time updates to their component of the program.

"Lockheed's JSF implementation represents a new way of doing business for these types of programs," said Brigadier General John Hudson, program executive officer and program director for the Joint Strike Fighter Program. "The infrastructure of IMF takes a program of this enormity and makes it manageable. Simply said, IMF is fabulous!"

Lockheed Martin's IMF provides the infrastructure to manage a program the magnitude of JSF. "Lockheed Martin Aeronautics' development of its Windchill-based IMF solution is a testament to their commitment to solving such a complex product development challenge," said Paul Cunningham, executive vice president, Americas Sales. "PTC is excited to be at the core of this best-in-class program management solution."

Windchill is enabling Lockheed Martin Aeronautics to take a government specification and produce an infrastructure to meet that specification. The Integrated Management Framework allows Lockheed Martin to seamlessly integrate with legacy systems providing the JSF team the critical capability to manage the collaborative efforts of its global value chain. With affordability as the cornerstone of the JSF Program, Windchill is enabling Lockheed Martin Aeronautics to achieve this goal by accelerating the product development lifecycle, reducing costs, and delivering the end product with confidence.
