Windchill® PDMLink™ Certified as CMII-compliant by the Institute of Configuration Management

Delivers Industry “Best Practice” Processes Out-of-the-Box

NEEDHAM, Mass. - April 8, 2002 - PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the product development company(tm), today announced that the Institute of Configuration Management has certified Windchill(r) PDMLink(tm) as CMII-compliant. PTC has received this certification validating Windchill PDMLink as a solution with out-of-the-box capabilities that promote industry recognized best practices for configuration management. Windchill PDMLink, a new solution for product data management, was launched today by PTC. (See related press release on Windchill PDMLink at http://www.ptc.com/company/news/press/releases/20020408pdmlink.htm).

The Institute for Configuration Management (ICM) is a training, consulting and research organization devoted to the promotion of industry best practices in the area of configuration management. The ICM promotes a standard called CMII. CM stands for Configuration Management and II indicates that this standard advances traditional configuration management practices to a new, more effective level. Hundreds of the world's top companies have embraced this standard, and are seeing the consistent conformance and continuous improvement that are byproducts of implementing the CMII model. PTC has helped make it easier to adopt the CMII standard, by building it into their Windchill PDMLink solution, as standard out-of-the-box functionality.

FSI International, a leading supplier of processing equipment used by customers around the world to manufacture microelectronics, wanted to adopt a standards-based change management process. "I'm excited about the fact that Windchill PDMLink is based on the CMII standard," says Todd Gregersen, FSI engineering business analyst. "The best practices offered by Windchill PDMLink should make our product development process smoother."

"Organizations worldwide are using the CMII principles to upgrade their CM practices, adopting the CMII model as their business process infrastructure and looking for CMII compliant tools," said Vincent Guess, president of the Institute for Configuration Management. "We are extremely impressed with how robust Windchill PDMLink is, and are very pleased to certify the solution and its change management process as CMII-compliant."

"Every potential Windchill PDMLink customer will have an existing change process, whether manual or automated," said James Heppelmann, executive vice president software solutions and chief technology officer. "The CMII closed-loop change methodology is a well-conceived, efficient process promoted by industry experts and viewed as industry best practice. By electronically implementing the CMII methodology in Windchill PDMLink, PTC helps its customers implement an out-of-the-box change process that is more efficient and standardized, which can result in significant cost savings to the customer."
Windchill PDMLink began shipping to select customers in March 2002, and will be generally available in May 2002. On May 1, PTC will participate in a Webcast discussing how Windchill PDMLink is being used to consistently deliver highly innovative products.
