NEEDHAM, MA – Oct. 22, 2001 – PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the product development company, today announced Burton Snowboards, the world's leading snowboard manufacturer, is speeding development of new board designs with Pro/ENGINEER® and Pro/INTRALINK®. Burton uses the PTC software to control all aspects of product development, from design to prototype to manufacture. For Burton, competition is intense -- the snowboard market is now growing at 50 percent per year, and Burton must get new designs to stores quickly.
An example of how Pro/ENGINEER helps compress snowboard time-to-market: Burton uses Pro/ENGINEER's associativity to speed new-product prototyping. Burton tests all new board designs repeatedly by building prototypes for on-the-slopes tryouts. Testers then report their findings, and Burton rushes to make an improved prototype for the next test.
By using Pro/ENGINEER’s associativity, Burton's design engineers can make the requested changes in their solid models. The changes are instantly reflected in the 2D drawings used for manufacturing, and the new prototype is ready for testing in as little as an hour, a process that previously took a week.
