NEEDHAM, MA and CHICAGO, IL - October 15, 2001 - PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the product development company(tm), and Andersen announced today an alliance to provide solutions that enable customers to drive new product development with web-enabled processes that result in reduced time-to-market, increased product success rates and improved product performance in terms of customer satisfaction, quality returns and defect rates. To assist companies with achieving these substantial economic and strategic benefits, Andersen will leverage its technology and process skills to implement PTC's Windchill(r) suite of products for companies in need of collaborative product commerce (CPC) solutions, which involve collaboration on product design and life-cycle management via the Internet.
Based on PTC's Net-native technology supporting CPC and Andersen's manufacturing industry knowledge and product development experience, the alliance enables companies to achieve greater:
* Collaboration - results in better communication and coordination between internal and external resources (engineers, suppliers, partners, etc.) involved in new product development.
* Alignment - structures internal and external resources around common goals and objectives; and ties new product development to corporate strategy.
* Accountability - creates mutual responsibility across geographies, functions and organizations for common performance measures among collaborating participants in the product development process
"Our experience with manufacturing companies allows us to demonstrate the importance of effective product development in achieving corporate prosperity," said Paul Shultz, Andersen partner for the PTC alliance. "Working with PTC, we will implement not only the technology that drives these web-collaborative solutions, but also dramatically improve the processes needed to plan, execute, and manage new product development." The PTC alliance is part of Andersen's integrated product development offering, which consists of comprehensive solutions around planning, execution and organization.
Since the beginning of the working relationship that began nearly two years ago, Andersen and PTC have received interest from prospective customers who recognize the great value in the two companies' combined strategies, services and software. One of the first companies to benefit from the relationship was Royal Appliance, known best for its Dirt Devil( brand of vacuum cleaners. Needing to refine its new product development process by extending its manufacturing operations to key partners worldwide, Royal Appliance looked to Andersen to implement PTC's Windchill technology, an implementation that quickly enabled the leveraging of critical product information to production partners throughout the globe.
"Our new, web-based product development infrastructure gives us more resources and greater capacity, two things we need to develop more new products, faster," said Richard Farone, vice president of new product development, Royal Appliance. "In the United States, we develop the product designs and line extensions, then turn them over to our global suppliers for production. We're talking about real-time collaboration in our supply chain."
In addition to working with Royal Appliance and other companies in the United States, Andersen and PTC are mutually developing promising opportunities in Europe, South America and Asia with manufacturers wanting to enrich their new product development process.
Under the agreement, Andersen has become part of PTC's Premier Enterprise Consulting Partner Program. The alliance agreement allows for technical personnel cross-training; joint marketing and sales programs, and ongoing collaboration sessions to continually leverage each firm's strengths. Andersen expects to train an initial group of consultants over the first six months of the agreement and hopes to expand its practice to 150 consultants over two years.
"Since our first mutual engagement 18 months ago this relationship has delivered significant results for our joint customers as well as for both PTC and Andersen," said Anthony DiBona, executive vice president, Global Business Partner Group, PTC. "Andersen's culture, market presence, and knowledge within the product development space correspond very well to PTC's company characteristics."
