PTC Announces Winners of PTC Awards Competition

John Deere Wins Top Honors and the Geisberg Award

NEEDHAM, Mass., June 21, 2001 - PTC (NASDAQ: PMTC), the product development company, today announced the winners of the ninth annual PTC Awards Competition awarded at the 2001 PTC/USER International Conference in Reno, Nev. The John Deere Worldwide Commercial and Consumer Equipment Division design of its 2002 LT Lawn Tractor received the Dr. Samuel P. Geisberg Award, named for PTC's founder, for the Best Overall entry. The John Deere design was judged the overall winner among more than 350 entries, submitted from dozens of countries.

The PTC Awards Competition is an international forum for PTC customers to display their successful achievements using PTC solutions. Awards are given in each of eight industry categories: aerospace, consumer products, education, electronics, heavy equipment, industrial equipment, medical equipment, and transportation.

Capturing both the Best Overall and Consumer Products industry awards the John Deere 2002 LT Series Lawn Tractor, a second-generation design, incorporates customer-driven design improvements while maintaining a competitive price position in the marketplace.

Development of the John Deere design was truly a collaborative effort, using Pro/ENGINEER, Pro/INTRALINK and Pro/MECHANICA to quickly design, analyze, and implement the features customers requested.

A panel of expert judges including Paul Teague, Ben Ames and Louise Elliott of Design News and Phil LoPiccolo of Computer Graphics World performed the first round of judging. Finalists in the competition were also judged by participants at the PTC/USER Conference and online. Decisions were based on the entries' comprehensive use of PTC products, creativity, and technical merit. Submissions were also evaluated on the benefits each design or design process has provided to the entrant's company. Individual winners were selected in each industry category.

This year's PTC/USER International Conference also announced the winners of the first-ever Innovation Awards competition. The submissions were judged on a product's creativity, appearance, usefulness, and how the contestants used PTC behavioral modeling and surfacing products to design and manufacture their product. The competition has two categories: Innovation in Aesthetics and Innovation in Function. The winners are:

Formerly Pro/USER, the new name reflects the organization's continued commitment to treat PTC users as a community of customers and to increase focus around not only the MCAD offerings from PTC, but to include Windchill Solutions as well.
