Controlling Product Data

Controlling Product Data

We've covered the locations for storing data in Windchill PDMLink, the types of data you can store, and ways to control access to information based on its maturity.

Additionally, there are several other types of information which help describe the history and current development state of an object:

  • Version describes the major revision of the object and the iteration of that revision. In the example below, the part is the second iteration of Revision A.
  • Status indicates where the object currently stands in the overall process. For example, if an object is checked out, the status indicates that object is checked out and who is working on it.
  • Location indicates which product or library folder contains the object. Select this link to go that folder location.

The primary way to control or modify product data is using the Actions list for an object which is available in the Details page and Folder view for an object. The Actions list lets you perform a broad series of actions on the object, such as to revise objects or check them out. The list of available actions is based upon your access privileges.
