Here at PTC, we are approaching another big milestone that I think you will find to be quite exciting. In late September we will begin shipping Windchill 9.0 FCS, which is a major new release of the Windchill product family, including both Pro/INTRALINK and Windchill PDMLink.

By several measures, Windchill 9.0 is the largest single software release PTC has ever delivered! In addition to entirely new modules, there are a host of new features and improvements throughout the Windchill product line. Once again, the Pro/ENGINEER data management capabilities in Pro/INTRALINK and Windchill PDMLink were a top priority, and customers with an interest in Pro/ENGINEER data management will be pleased to see major usability, feature, and performance improvements such as:

• New “workspace save-as (with update parent)” feature that was a top request
• New “import/export from workspace” feature
• More flexibility to create and manage baselines
• Streamlined checkout processing
• Reconfigurable table views
• New “find in workspace” feature
• New “featured items” filter that allows user to only display the most relevant items in the workspace
• Major performance improvements relative to 8.0 FCS

In addition to these great enhancements, there are other major developments within the Windchill 9.0 release. A few to highlight would be:

• Major usability and user interface improvements throughout the product
• Breakthrough improvements to the performance and usability of ProductView
• Major enhancements in configuration managements, including a new variant configurator capability
• Major improvements to other MCAD and ECAD workgroup managers
• Major improvements to administrative tools for deployment and supportability

Also, Windchill 9.0 includes several entirely new modules such as:

• Windchill MPMLink, a comprehensive new solution for Manufacturing Process Management that allows Pro/ENGINEER data to be repurposed into manufacturing process plans
• Windchill Business Reporting, a new “business intelligence” module built around Cognos technology that allows users to easily create custom reports

I think you will be pleased with this release and with the return that it represents for your maintenance investment. I also trust that you will see that, while PTC has a broad and comprehensive vision for our Product Development System, the ability to efficiently model your products in Pro/ENGINEER and then effectively management that data remains in the very center of our strategy.
