4 Companies That Got Results Adding on to Creo
PTC package upgrades have been available for a while now. These bundles of software bring rich new capabilities to anyone currently using Creo. Capabilities like simulation, direct modeling, and product lifecycle management—all at a lower price than if you purchased them each separately.
Of course, software that doesn’t help the bottom line in some way is never a bargain. We all want to see real results, at real companies, before we invest. That’s exactly why we went back through our files to see how Creo users who have already added these capabilities are doing. Here’s what we found:
Tontec: Rework down 30%, mold efficiency improved 15%
Tontec International is a Chinese design and manufacturing company with 4300 employees and plants spread across eastern China. Orders come from customers everywhere: Schneider Electric, Bosch, Toshiba, and more.
It takes about 330 injection molding machines to produce the more than 1500 molds the company produces each year. While Tontec has been using PTC solutions for years, it recently added Creo Flexible Modeling Extension and Creo Mold Analysis Extension and reports excellent results.
With the upgrade, Shen yang Liao, mold design department manager, says “We see significant improvements in terms of enhanced capabilities which have helped us to improve our mold design efficiency.”
Tontec offers all kinds of different molding processes, including multi-material molding.
FST: Design time reduced 46%
FST is a South Korean company that makes equipment for semiconductor fabrication for leading global semiconductor manufacturers like Tokyo Electron (TEL), Hitachi, Nikko, and Canon.
With Creo and Creo Advanced Assembly Extension (AAX), engineers design and manage assemblies easily, supporting true concurrent engineering. With dedicated tools for data-sharing, top-down design (such as skeleton models), assembly configuration, and assembly process planning, AAX has become the optimal environment for design of complex assemblies—like the Chiller, a device that keeps semiconductor surfaces cool during manufacturing.
ISP System: Products to market 30% faster; production time down 20%
French company ISP System specializes in engineering specialized precision products, especially those that integrate multiple engineering disciplines. The 15-year-old company serves clients in just about every industry: Aerospace, automotive, rail, digital printing, medical, and more.
Like most companies, ISP wanted to cut design time, without sacrificing the quality of its work. So, it sought out technology that allowed engineers to design mechatronic products in a single environment—from concept to simulation. For ISP, the solution was Creo and the Creo Piping and Cabling Extension.
“We now offer shorter delays, with a more complete conceptual phase and gains in productivity and cost,” says Paul Sauvageot, CEO ISP System.

KTM: Fewer prototypes, more innovation
Austrian-based KTM is the fastest-growing motorbike manufacturer in the world, growing 36% in 2012. We spoke with Olef Seger about a wheel he innovated for the company.
“The KTM 690 wheel introduces a new generation to the product line,” says Seger. “Going forward, KTM will use these wheels on many of its new models.”
To avoid extensive physical prototyping, Seger uses Creo Simulate. “With PTC Creo Simulate, we save a lot of time because we can check within approximately an hour whether a design change was successful,” says Seger.
The design team can then repeat simulations easily, too. “If you set parameters accordingly, you don’t have to worry about ongoing design changes,” he says. “The program checks them automatically.”
Rába Axle: Manufacturing costs down 50%
While we’re on the topic of wheels, meet Hungarian manufacturer Rába Axle. The company makes heavy duty axles for military vehicles, tractors, city buses, and more.
To build its rugged equipment, Rába Axle uses Creo, Creo Simulate, and Windchill PDMLink.
Windchill PDMLink is a web-based product data management (PDM) system that professionally vaults designs and associated information in a central, trusted repository. So any time the engineering team wants to update or fully redesign an axle or other part, it’s easy to find existing models to build from. It’s also easy for other team members to see and share the data. Windchill PDMLink ensures nobody loses time looking for the most recent version of a file or overwriting someone else’s work.
