PTC Design Challenge
Welcome to the 2010 PTC Student Design Challenge. This global contest is open to all students whose secondary school or college/university is currently enrolled in the PTC Education Program.
We invite all eligible students to participate in the challenge and have a change to have their design featured in the upcoming PTC.Setup for Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0 Schools and Student Editions.
Submission Deadline: April 16, 2010
Eligibility
To be eligible, the contestants (group or individual) must be part of a school currently enrolled in the PTC Global Education Program. The contestant must be a registered student in the ’09-’10 school year. In addition, the contestants must be sponsored by a teacher at their school. Please read the complete Contest Rules.
Submission Categories
- Secondary School
- Post Secondary (above grade level 12, college/university students)
Students will be competing against other students around the world within their grade levels. Students will be required to use Pro/ENGINEER to create and capture the image of their design that will be submitted. Students can utilize the advanced rendering functionality available in Pro/ENGINEER to create their image.
5 students from each category will be chosen as finalists, for a total of 10 finalists. Their design images will be featured in the PTC.Setup of the upcoming releases of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0 Schools and Student Editions.
Guidelines - How to Submit?
Individuals should submit their design images no later than April 16, 2010 (5:00 pm EST) to ptcdesign@ptc.com. The size of the image should be either; 1200 x 810 pixels, 800 x 540 pixels or 400 x 270 pixels in size. The official size of the image to be included into PTC.Setup is 400 x 270 pixels.
Note: To help prepare the image, individuals should turn off the Pro/ENGINEER spin center from the icon in the top toolbar and change the background color to white. To change the background color of Pro/ENGINEER, select the View pull-down menu > Display Settings > System Colors. In the System Colors dialog, click the Scheme pull-down menu and choose Black on White.
If you are using the Advanced Rendering function in Pro/ENGINEER, you can save the image directly from the Render toolbar. Alternatively, you can save the image using the Save a Copy command, which can be accessed from the File pull-down menu > Save A Copy (select JPEG as the file type). In the JPEG dialog, specify the size of image to be A and the DPI value as 100.
In the email, please include the following information:
- Name or team member names
- School or College/University name
- Teacher or Professors name
- Category: Secondary School or College/University
- State/Province
- Country
Judging
Judging will be based on a combination of scores in five different categories, for a possible point total of 50. The categories are:
- Innovative Design – 15 points
- Image Quality – 10 points
- Complexity of Design – 15 points
- Feasibility of Solution – 5 points
- Aesthetics/Style – 5 points
Prizes:
- Grand Prize - Design featured in the upcoming PTC.Setup for Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0 Schools and Student Editions
- Copy of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0 Student edition to the winning teams or individuals.
