Benefits and Description
Beginning with PTC Windchill 10.2, it is possible to create Windchill part structures from AutoCAD blocks. The AutoCAD drawing is often considered a container where a single drawing file can contain the definition for several business objects. Users can represent business objects within an AutoCAD file in a variety of ways, but many use AutoCAD blocks to represent BOM information within a drawing. By creating a generic method of extracting, filtering, and exposing block information in Windchill as product structures, Windchill provides an infrastructure for creating BOMs from AutoCAD drawings.
