Benefits and Description

PTC Windchill 10.2 has implemented the Windchill File System (WFS) for the PTC Windchill Workgroup Manager for SolidWorks. This method treats Windchill as part of the file system, enabling SolidWorks to access files in Windchill as if they were in folders on the local file system.

The WFS approach provides the end user with increased ease of use and a more robust integration that works in concert with the CAD system. The WFS method also enables native SolidWorks commands such as Open and Insert Components to be used to access files directly from the Windchill commonspace.
