Benefits and Description
The Creo, and more generally CAD data management usability improvements in Windchill 10.1 include the following:
Right Mouse Button (RMB) access to actions in the workspace
The introduction of the RMB actions menu in the workspace gives the user quicker access to available actions for a single object as well as for multi-object selections. This provides a level of consistency with the folder listing, search results and structure browser of Windchill where right click access has previously been made available, improving end user efficiency when within the workspace, reducing mouse travel and the need to navigate to individual property pages when performing some actions.
Ability to automatically apply a workspace lock to objects during add to workspace action
To help prevent inadvertent modification of Creo data in a users workspace, it is a common practice to lock the objects that have not been checked-out by applying a workspace lock. This puts the data in a read only state in the embedded browser’s workspace. In previous releases of Windchill this was a multi-step process. With Windchill 10.1, the lock can be applied at the time of checkout or during the Add to Workspace action from the embedded browser by selecting the "Automatically lock all non-checked out objects added to the workspace" checkbox. Moreover, the default behavior for this checkbox can be controlled via a new preference, "Workspace>Add to Workspace and Check Out > Automatically lock objects added to workspace."
Improved access to the Add to Workspace action throughout Windchill
For the CAD user the Add to Workspace action is arguably the most used action in Windchill along with check-in. Windchill 10.1 has strived to make this widely used action more prominent in the Windchill UI. This includes adding its availability to the Where Used report. In addition through the introduction of a new profile setting the Add to Workspace action can be displayed more prominently to provide quick access. This includes first level access in the Actions menus, as well as direct access from the toolbars for search results and folder views. For the CAD Author profile this visibility has been enabled by default.
