Benefits and Description
Security Labels provide a greater ability to restrict access to sensitive information, while leaving the information in the context where it should logically reside. Once an object is labeled as sensitive, a user must either be cleared for that level of restriction or they must have a special agreement in place permitting them access.
Typical problem statements addressed by this feature include:
- If a user does not have the appropriate security clearance, they should not be able to see a classified object even if the access control rules for the context would permit them access
- If an object is export controlled, non-US persons should not be able to access the object unless they have received special dispensation via the appropriate export control agreement (TAA, etc)
- If an object is corporate proprietary, it should not be visible to external participants who have not signed an appropriate NDA
Essentially, the security labels feature allows you to:
- Identify that a business object contains sensitive information
- Data which is Classified, Export Controlled, Corporate Proprietary, etc
- Manage the set of users with unrestricted access to that data
- People who have Top Secret Clearance, Members of the Hosting Organization, etc
- Manage the set of users with agreement-based access to specific items
- Individuals permitted access to ITAR-controlled document ABC until Oct 31st under TAA 1234
