DEERE & COMPANY
The John Deere 3235C reel mower machine, used on golf course fairways. It can mow a path of 105 inches wide at one time, and cut as low as 5/8 inches. The design includes a unique operator station, that moves the seat, for maximized operator comfort.
With Pro/ENGINEER we were able to build 6 machines using the same basic foundation components. It was completed on a timeline that would have normally been 3 years and 5 engineers, down to 2 years and 2 engineers. In essence, using solid modeling alone reduced required headcount by 60% and the timeline by 33%.
This machine is very innovative because it is built on the same platform as our new rough mower introduced this year. From the factory it is about 90% common with that machine. This allows us to compete using the same components over again and reducing cost. It also allows us to target the consumer as a complete source for all golf course needs. Another competitive advantage is the large radiator screen area, that was developed using the analysis feature in Pro/ENGINEER. This combined with the exceptional cooling package allows for full coverage of the screen in 110 degree ambient temperature without overheat issues.
